The best life advice I ever received

How are you feeling about your life? Like realllly feeling? Think about it for a minute. Seriously. Stop reading … Stop whatever else you’re doing … And just check-in with yourself. And be honest. Like brutally honest.

Are you happy with your career? Your relationships? Your living situation? Your hobbies and passions? Your body? Your energy? Are you hyped up about your life? Do you wake up most days looking forward to something?

If you answered no to any of these questions, then it’s time to refocus your priorities. Immediately.

The best piece of life advice I ever received was from my brother. I was at a place in my life where I was unenthusiastic about pretty much everything. I was getting paid well but I didn’t love my job. I was in a relationship but we broke up every other day. I had a lot of hobbies but I was kind of bored of them. And I don’t know, I just felt stagnant and uninspired and like a hamster constantly running in her wheel but getting nowhere. It’s like I was waiting for something to fall into my lap and shake up my whole life in the best way possible. And it just wasn’t happening.

You’re probably thinking … “Okay … So what was this life-changing advice?”

I’m going to tell you, I promise. But first, do you have those friends that seem to just be doing random, cool shit all the time? Like they’re always excited about something and constantly high on life? I have those friends. And for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out what their secret was … Until now … Because I have the secret … And it’s the advice my brother gave me … And I’m gonna share it with you too.

“You just gotta grab life by the ass … And f*ck it.”

Kinda crude? Yes. A little too graphic? Also yes. Was he likely just drunk and blabbering and probably meant nothing by this? No doubt in my mind.

But just stick with me for a second.

When you “grab life by the ass and f*ck it” … You seize opportunities. You let go of fear. You let go of whatever insecurities you have … You let go of self doubt … You let go of those swirling thoughts in your head that tell you you’re not good enough … You let go of perfection and “the right moment” … You let go over overthinking … You stop caring about what other people think … And you just go for it.

Are there certain things in life that require thoughtful planning, preparation, and careful execution? Absolutely. 100%. For example — surgery. But majority of things don’t. And most of the time, we just drag our feet because we’re lazy and/or afraid of looking stupid or failing. We overthink and procrastinate and before we know it, another five years has gone by and we’re still that hamster spinning in the same grimy wheel … Just probably slower and a little heavier.

So what do you need to do to feel hyped up about life again? Is there something you’ve been wanting to try? A business you’ve wanted to launch? Is there somewhere you’ve been wanting to visit or even live? Is there someone you’ve been wanting to get to know more that you’ve been too nervous to approach? Is there something you’ve wanted to learn? Whatever it is, big or small, figure it out and just go for it. You don’t have to build the entire kingdom in a day. You just have to lay that first brick down.

Remember: The more you engage with the Universe, the more it engages with you. So stop waiting for the perfect moment and just grab life by the ass and f*ck it.
